A 1990 graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Law, Julie clerked for the North Carolina Supreme Court after graduation. She has worked in private practice, the public sector, and higher education as general counsel. Her appointments include serving as general counsel for the UNC School of the Arts; police attorney for the cities of Durham and Winston-Salem, NC; and as an assistant attorney general for the N.C. Department of Justice.
Throughout her career, she has practiced in the areas of employment law, contract law (with a focus on drafting and negotiation), and education law. She also has substantial experience in risk management and mitigation, mediation, and in policy development.
Before attending law school, she was a museum director and a historic preservationist. She enjoys spending time with her dog and engaging in artistic activities (wood and other media) when not practicing law.
